    The Canipe Family

    T
he Canipes contacted me a few months ago... they were expecting number 3 and wanted some family pics with their newest bundle. I know I have said it before, but it is so true... if you want the true newborn portraits, you have to get them in the first two weeks (ideally between days 5-10). So, I jumped with joy that they contacted me BEFORE their baby was born to try to book a date. Of course, we ended up pushing the session date back a few days since they were still in the hospital on the original date. The Canipes are brave; they drove from the Utica area to meet me in Lake Placid in their hotel room for newborn shots. Let me say that again a different way... The Canipes drove three hours to have a mini-vaca here so that they could get some portraits of their newly expanded family! Wow. I am so honored. Of course, I should add that they knew me from when I photographed their brother's wedding last year in Utica- Brittani & Kyle. You may recognize the flower girl in a sec. :-) Anyhow... I had so much fun with this family, and I can't thank them enough for driving so far with a newborn and two kids in tow. Congratulations! Happy viewing, friends!

Max is starting to uncurl. I could tell, but I was determined to get a pic of him all curled up and nakey! Yes, this was taken in their hotel room- not in a studio.

    sweet mommy moments!

I love this one! I can only imagine what it is like at home with two older sisters to watch over the little man.

so... he was awake for the pics in the hotel... but, I get what I get, and he is such a handsome little man!

Mikayla was SOOOO excited to show me her AHHH-mazing hoola-hoop skills. I mean, the girl could do this all day long. not exaggerating here.

who doesn't melt with daddy/baby moments? seriously sweet.

But, THIS.... this is my favorite of the day! sleepy boy with his adoring sisters!!

This next one, I almost didn't include in the preview post since it isn't technically-speaking a fabulous image since so much is blasted out, BUT... it is one of the sweetest unscripted moments ever. LOVE it!

    how cute is she, really?

and to close... Karlee. she's a little shy at first, but I'd say she warmed right up to me and my camera. :-)

    Thanks and CONGRATS again!!

    Babies

    Andrea - Maternity Portraits

    Y
ou've seen her before... if you have followed my site for the past few months, you've definitely seen this lady before... with her precious lil blonde haired tot. The only difference is that now she is showing her beautiful belly filled with two precious babies. We had this idea to use some blocks to show the names of her babies, but we forgot to do it during her first shoot (and honestly, she barely had a bump then). So, I waited until she was showing more... and until we could track down enough letter blocks to spell out both names at the same time. So... we did a little mini session in my neighborhood. I see things when I drive around, but most of the time I think... "gosh, my clients will totally think I am ghetto if I bring them here. I can't bring them here." But, with Andrea, I had no fears of that. So, we went down the street to this empty house that has been on the market for a while (a real fixer-upper) that just happens to have this HUGE patch of wildflowers. Literally, what you see below is the full width without showing the decrepit house or chain-linked fence, but I think it is lovely. We then went up the street to another neighbors staircase to their yard. They approached us a little embarrassed they had not mowed or straightened up, but I told them I wouldn't tell anyone their names (and that I liked it just the way it is!). Anyhow... this mini shoot was just play time for us. So, happy viewing, friends!! (and thanks to Andrea for coming back out to be photographed!)

    The Pettit Family

olly has been an avid blog reader of mine for quite some time. I mean, she may not leave a million comments like some of my other avid readers (whom I also love!), but she does pretty much know the ins and outs of everything I do... so much so that I remember Chris coming home from having seen her out at camp, and he told me that she had commented that she felt weird every time she saw me because she knew everything about me and I didn't really know her... which made me laugh because I forget that that happens when you keep a regular blog with lots of life details mixed in. But, Holly, you are a legend out at camp, and we have lived in the same apartment, even though it was years apart. So, maybe I don't know what you think about each of my favorite photos or what you did for the 4th of July, but I do know that you are super fun... and that I wish I had been around Saranac Lake when you got married years ago.

Anyhow... tangent! Naturally, I was SUPER excited when she told me that this was the year they were going to be able to book me! I literally waited on the edge of my seat for the confirmation and deposit. Seriously. haha! So, anyhow, we agreed to do two locations... the first was right outside the church where Holly & Dave were married almost seven years ago, and the second was (of course) John Brown Farm. It was a beautiful morning this morning, and we got out just before the sun got too strong and too hot to tolerate. So, I hope you all LOVE this post. Happy viewing, friends!

seriously, I could photograph lil Abby all day long. She was so sweet to her little brother Hudson!

Dave informed me that the necklace Holly was wearing was very special to them and their family, so I wanted to be sure to get some images showing that... of course, the kids played with it without me asking... so perfect!

the boys (and the new door at the Adirondack Community Church- when did THAT happen?!)

    seriously cute. love this one!

also loved when Abby wanted to put a daisy behind her dad's ear. I see this moment in our future. ha!

FAVORITE of Abby. like I told you, I could photograph her all day.

of course, you have to have a nice action shot of mom toting around the tot. cutie!

Hudson was very excited that they let him hold a flower. He's going to love this when he's 12... (just tell him that he tore it up immediately after this photo was taken- which isn't far from the truth!)

    He's on the move!!!

every mom and dad needs a pic of just the two of them. not easy to get when you have two little ones, but it is a must. :-)

Thanks so much, Pettit fam!! I hope we can do this again sometime down the road. :-)

    Catherine & Joe - ENGAGED!

    I
have to start this by saying that I try to avoid superlatives at all costs that compare my shoots or weddings to each other because all of them are unique (and the same) in ways... so, it isn't fair to say "most favorite" or "best of the year" and especially not "most awkward couple ever." haha! No, I really don't like saying things like that because I don't want to be unfair to all of my wonderful clients, and truth be told, I think they are all great- no matter who it is or where it is. BUT... this shoot from Saturday is one that I have been looking forward to for years, long before it was booked or I had ever met Cat & Joe. I had ALWAYS wanted to do a shoot at a state fair or carnival or amusement park... really anything with that kind of fun atmosphere and bright colors and lights. And, finally, it worked out to do it! I think Cat was attracted mainly by the tractor pull (that we missed) and the distractions from a large camera pointed at them... but, it worked out for both of us because I was in visual heaven. Okay, so all of you teenagers reading this that have been to the Clinton County Fair, you probably are thinking it is a totally lame place... but, for photos, it could not have been more fun! I wish it wasn't over so that I could do another shoot or two there! Seriously. I think I could do a dozen shoots at a place like that and not repeat an image. Anyway... bottom line, I L-O-V-E-D this shoot. Some of my most favorite engagement pics ever. (I know, I said I don't like superlatives, but this one time is okay, i think). And, Cat & Joe thought having their pictures taken would be awkward. hmph! Anyhow... I could go on and on, but instead, I will let the images do the talking. Happy viewing, friends!

Cat got her tractor (although I think she said this isn't a REAL tractor- really?)

it was beautiful all day, and then it started sprinkling... and it was wet and muddy and cloudy there... but it didn't matter... because we had fun carni lights!

and then, they went on some rides. okay, to all of your photogs out there, if you haven't tried shooting people on a ride such as the one below and want to, get ready for about 150 images with about 10 that are in focus and not the back of the seat. THOSE THINGS MOVE FAST!!

I couldn't tell if Cat wanted to cuddle or vomit in this shot. haha! :-)

a dizzy gal calls for a sturdy hand to help her up. love this!

Okay, seriously... FAVORITE PICTURE OF THE MONTH!! (maybe the year... or longer) I absolutely LOVE having lights blurred in the background of an image, and I rarely get to take pics with them (unless it is a Christmas wedding)... seriously, I am a little obsessed with this image... like I want to go back next year and have someone take a pic like this of Chris and me. Funny thing is I didn't really direct this shot other than to say... stand there. :-) Okay, novel explanation here. sorry!

    more fun at the fair!

okay, so riding backwards on a carousel makes for one dizzy Rae. But, I love this next image, too! Kissing on moving objects is not easy, especially when the ride isn't smooth. ha!

I mean, what is a fair without cotton candy, right? this makes me giggle inside.

last shot of the evening. so sweet! I can't wait for the big day! Thanks for letting me shoot somewhere other than my normal stomping grounds. I loved it, and you guys were so fun!!

Emily & Ryan - Engaged! (by Chris)

    C
AUTION: The following post is all Chris, my husband. He volunteered to take these pics for our friends, and I just agreed to edit a few for the blog. So, this post is from Chris' perspective since he took the pics. I take no responsibility for anything that is written past this sentence. :-)

I've known Ryan for a couple years now and Emily for just about a year so I was really excited to hear that they'd gotten engaged! Ryan called and asked if i'd do some portraits for them and I was happy to oblige. We decided to do the shoot out at camp since both Ry and Em have spent a lot of time here (and let's face it, it's beautiful). The weather forecast was a little sketchy, but it turned out to be a really nice morning for a photoshoot.

I should probably add that this is my first solo portrait session so go easy on me :-) Rae taught me everything I know, but I'm still not nearly as good as she is. Let me know what you think in the comments!

PS... My wife is awesome for editing these... since I am colorblind. :-) Happy viewing!

First we decided to head over to the rodeo fencing near sail beach. I was just getting warmed up and so were they.

I love their expressions in this one.

This was taken at the Outpost right UNDER the counter. Who knew there was a great background under there?

These two were just made for each other and you can tell by just how they love to laugh together.

The porch of the boathouse where I proposed to Rae definitely has a special place in my heart. I just had to catch the details of this moment between Em and Ry.

    They look good don't they?

This picture is one of my faves because of how the color just pops.

    A typical beautiful Saranac morning.

    Thanks so much guys!
